My father passing away changed my life forever
I was sitting at the bedside of my father who was too sick to speak. It was a cold fall evening of 1997 and I was about 10 years old in Columbus, Ohio. I was at the James Cancer Hospital at the time and I saw how my dad went from walking and talking to bedridden in a matter of months. He had been through countless treatments with synthetic options at this time and it was really taking a toll on his body.
This all started when he woke up several months earlier from his sleep with what he thought was an ear infection. Turns out that it was actually throat cancer after he finally went to the doctor after putting it off for months.
I remember sitting at the side of his bed one night and asking him if he was going to cut my hair when we got home. He was a really great barber and had been doing it on the side for over 10 years. However, he couldn’t speak due to his condition. All I saw was a tear fall from his face as he turned his head slightly towards me.
I really wanted to hear what my dad would say that night. I wanted to be assured that things would go back to the way things used to be before he got sick.
Growing up with an African American dad and a Korean mother created a very interesting upbringing and I looked to my dad a lot of times for advice.
There were many times when my dad and I would joke and he would share his wisdom about his life and relationships with me. I would often sit eagerly in anticipation for those conversations and always liked how they ended. He would bring out the “claw” and tickle me to no end. He would often bring me to the point of almost peeing my pants from all the laughter!
My life changed forever when my father passed away to throat cancer in October 17th, 1997. The doctor’s told me that he had an extreme side effect to the synthetics used in his treatment and this was a one in a billion chance. I still wonder if that was fully true or not. :-/
This day dramatically changed my life because I found out at an early age that I could lose someone I love in an instant. It taught me that life is fragile and I asked myself if this could ever happen to me or someone else that I love.
Have you had a health concern that been bothering you or have you been affected by the loss of a loved one?
Who is Lance?
I help people improve their health so they can accomplish their goals with natural solutions. I’ve been improving my health since 2004 with a more natural approach to healthcare that’s empowered me to make better decisions.
This started in my college dorm room at Ohio State when I started making healthy pancakes for myself and people smelled it down the hall and people started inviting themselves! I later honed in on serving my roommates various different healthy meals ranging from chili to smoothies!
However, I haven’t done it alone. I’ve worked with many experts along the way in the health and wellness industry. They have helped me see the value of taking control of my health in a more meaningful way. In fact, it hasn’t always been easy to find what I was looking for.
This is because looking for relevant information that you can trust can sometimes be hard. Are they credible? Where’s the social proof that others are happy with their results?
That’s why I’ve “distilled” simple truths for you in bottle sized informational amazingness throughout this website in the form of reviews. Ready for a drop or two of awesomeness?
But first, let’s talk about…
My Struggles and Old Way of Thinking
I’ve struggled with adult acne since my sophomore year of high school. I remember a time when I had clear skin and got one pimple and applied hydrogen peroxide to my face several times and broke out so bad that I was embarrassed to go to school and got made fun of a lot. I felt sad.
This made me feel really ashamed and I lost confidence in myself and didn’t even want to look at myself in the mirror.
I’ve used over the counter options and 3 step systems off and on for the past decade with mixed results. They would work for a few months pretty well, then all of a sudden my face would break out again causing what I like to call the “cycle of frustration.”
In other words, I would see clearer skin for a time, but then I would get frustrated from the results and cancel my membership. This has happened 3 times already.
Whether its breakouts, pimples, uneven skin complexion, scars, stretch marks, or wrinkles, we all have some type of skin issue that we are battling with now or know somebody that is.
I used to think that I could never get passed my health issues and that I was just doomed to live with the consequences. That was until I started researching and experimenting with different natural alternatives.
Getting Wet and Wild…Orange
I was introduced to “important liquids” in November of 2013 at a class in Las Vegas where a few drops of wild orange were “dripped” on me. A nice woman named Malee (my current mentor) taught me about the benefits of using wild orange. I later learned that this essential oil was great for uplifting mood, detoxification, and clearing up uneven skin complexion.
I actually started experimenting with a combination of eating right and essential oils to see what worked best for my skin and body. You see, I have naturally oily and sensitive skin that seems to break out pretty easily. This matters to me because people look at my face when I’m talking and having an uneven skin complexion negatively affects my confidence.
Eating more whole foods that are organic and raw in combination of treating my skin with essential oil kits designed to help with skin complexion and digestion have been really helpful. It’s true that who we are on the outside is a reflection of what’s going on in the inside.
Don’t get me wrong, I still struggle with mild acne, but it’s at a more manageable level than what it used to be. I think one of the greatest lessons I’ve learned along the way is that no matter how hard I try, there will still be things that I have to come to terms with and accept about myself.
What I mean by that is, consistent self-care is important regardless of the outcome I get. When I take care of myself, I’m in a better position to take care of others through sharing my own struggles and positive learnings in a more valuable way.

Getting Schooled Up
What does the word “Wellness Philosophy” mean to you? I learned about this concept in an essential oils class that I went to in Las Vegas, Nevada in 2013. This helped me gain a new perspective about my health and challenged to me to not just talk the talk, but walk the talk when it comes to my health concerns.
Below is a breakdown in order of importance of how to improve your health. Spoiler alert: This is common sense, but not always common practice 🙁
- Eat Right (Most Important)
- Exercise (2nd Most important)
- Manage Stress
- Reduce Toxicity
- Informed Self Care
- Proactive Care
Whoa…Slow Down There Buddy!
Earth shattering and mind blowing stuff right? Well for most people, including myself, this was just what I needed to hear.
However, this begs the question, “Is the way we handle health in this country broken?”
With the number of side effects and resistance buildup on the rise, I have to question if the way we have traditionally handled health in this country is in need of reform. This is not a political speech, but based on my past experiences, I know that I need a more natural approach that will empower me to make educated decisions about my own health.

What Makes Me Different From Other People
My top 3 core values are to…
- Learn a lot
- Encourage others
- Have fun!
Does that sound like something you’d be interested in?
My purpose is to provide you with fun and encouraging information that helps you make educated decisions about your own health too. Oh yeah, and if we can share a smile or laugh then that’s cool too! 😀
Sound good? Hold on, it gets better!
My goal is not to judge or convince you about essential oils. It’s not about pushing or pulling you into my agenda of why essential oils are so beneficial for you (okay well maybe just a little on that last one). 😉
My main goal is to present you with the facts and the truth about essential oils and let you treat this like an all you can eat buffet. What I mean by that is you can take what you want, leave what you don’t, and eat till you’re full.
