All Food Grade Essential Oils Are Not Created Equal

Just because a food grade essential oil has been approved for internal use and has supplement facts on the side of the bottle, doesn’t mean it’s the best quality for your body.

Did You Know?

Essential oils with GRAS (Generally Recognized As Safe), FA (Food Additive), or FL (Flavoring Agent) status are considered by the FDA as safe to consume and can be used internally through several ways, but additional 3rd party testing will be critical to make sure you get the world’s highest quality and that the proper quantities are being used.

The Main Problem That We All Face

There’s tons of food grade essential oils in all types of consumable products, flavorings, and ingredients at the stores and online. The problem is the level of “other stuff” that is in them that can make them a low grade toxin as well.

Food Grade Essential Oils 101

1.) Most commonly found in cooking extracts & flavorings

2.) Higher quality than synthetic essential oils (but not the highest quality)

3.) Toxicity depends on number of contaminants, fillers, foreign substances, or alcohol solvents that have been used

Note: Most are not 3rd party tested for purity so it’s a mixed bag on the quality and results that you can expect to receive.

How Food Grade Oils Can Be Used

1.) Sublingual: Drop 1-2 drops of doTERRA lemon or frankincense under your tongue to directly get them into your bloodstream.

2.) Capsules: Add 3-5 drops of doTERRA oregano in a veggie capsule to support your immune system and kick out any bugs in the gut.

3.) Beverages: Add 2 drops per 8 oz or 4 drops per 16 oz in alkaline or distilled water and try to drink at least half your bodyweight in ounces every day for optimal blood flow and circulation.

4.) Cooking: Usually 1 drop of an oil is all you need, but you can also use a toothpick and dip it in the bottle and swirl it around in the recipe too. Some great oils to use are doTERRA black pepper, basil, oregano, thyme, rosemary, cardamom, cassia, or cinnamon.

In Summary

Food grade oils can  be taken internally in a number of ways but you want to make sure you are using doTERRA to make sure you are getting the world’s highest quality and that you have the best experience. You definitely want to follow the usage guidelines on the amount to use of each oil as well.
